Music festivals aren’t exactly synonymous with health and wellness. But, if you're looking for ways to take some care of yourself, and for some ways to keep the fun going for as long as possible, then here's some simple suggestions!
1. Stay hydrated!
So obvious. But, important. Take a water bottle everywhere, fill up when you see a water point, and get that water in you betwen every alcoholic drink!
2. Eat plenty
Festivals are surprisingly physical - you're walking for miles, dancing for hours, socialising, and being silly (hopefully) - get plenty of food in!
You probably need more fuel than usual, not less.
Try and get protein with every meal for sustained energy & get some veg in too, if not to replenish lost vitamins and minerals, eat it to keep your bowel movements regular - constipation or diarrhoea (whichever way you go) will not make you feel good or give you energy. Eating well is easy at festivals these days with all the great food choices!
If it's hot, some fresh fruit is a great option - or a nice smoothie or juice - again to replenish lost vitamins and minerals & for extra hydration.
Pack snacks you will want to eat for when you need a quick energy boost.
Food = energy = more fun.
3. Take breaks
It's easy to get fomo when there's so much going on, but pacing yourself will stop you from crashing out too early later on in the day (me and my friends did this at a festival at age 19 - this is not just 30+ festival advice!). This is especially important when it's hot & sunny - avoid heat stroke!
4. Sleep (lol)
Sleeping is generally pretty hard in a hot tent, surrounded by live music and people having a good time. But... get it in when you can.
Pack earplugs, an eye mask, and a portable fan.
Have a snooze under a tree - noone's judging you!
5. Supplement suggestions
If you're really burning the candle at both ends, or want to give your body a little helping hand:
Magnesium can calm your nervous system in this hyperstimulating environment and can support your sleep.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that can support recovery the next morning.
Both of these are pretty easy to get from food sources, like fresh fruit and veg, but equally they get depleted quickly in this ful-on environment!
Otherwise - enjoy every minute of whichever festival you're going to and stay safe!
